A look at some of the more uplifting moments of the past week

What a week this has been.
We’ve stopped all face-to-face contact throughout our business, paused our manufacturing facility, settled into a new routine working from home and tried very hard not to succumb to corona-panic. Easier said than done. But while it has been a tough week, there have been glimmers of positivity. As well as more than 500,000 people signing up overnight to be volunteers and an outpouring of gratitude for our amazing NHS frontline staff, we’ve had a few uplifting moments of our own that we wanted to share.
A much appreciated ‘thank you’ from a hospital team
Early last week, before the new restrictions were announced, we postponed a scheduled installation that was due to start this week. We thought the last thing hospital estate and facilities staff need right now is to be worrying about relocating power sockets and moving furniture around – it can wait. The client’s team was so grateful, and we can be ready to refurbish and complete the installation when its safe for us all to do so.
Educators who are holding their nerve
If you’re working in a school right now, you’d be 100% forgiven for wanting to clear your desk of anything that doesn’t relate to getting through this crisis, but most of our customers are holding their nerve and continuing to work with us to create amazing learning spaces.
One Swiss international school is going ahead with its learning spaces project, working with us on the design and buttoning down the details. They know that the furniture may well be a little late but they also recognise that the work still needs to be done and, as long as it gets there eventually, it’s still worth doing. Life will get back to something-like normal at some point and this client is thinking ahead (and they’re not alone). We are in awe and we’re very grateful.
Starting new projects!
A UK Deputy Head has decided that now would be a good time to get on with designing the superb new learning space that he’s been thinking about for a while. Based in the north of England, this intrepid teacher is taking the opportunity of only having a few students in school to get ahead and crack on with things he hasn’t been able to do until now. It’s pretty humbling that our teachers are so used to working at full tilt 110% of the time that they regard anything less as ‘downtime’.
Learniture® orders shipped!
Learniture® (our sister company, which, unlike Spaceoasis® does hold product in stock, whereas we make everything to order) shipped two orders over to the Isle of Man via a pallet service this week from its Oxfordshire warehouse. Learniture® furniture is self-assembly and it’s delivered to clients flatpack by courier to keep costs right down. This client is another person holding their nerve, keeping calm and carrying on. Thank you and ‘respect’!

New baby!
Working from home means Matt, our Operations Manager, gets to spend more time with his new daughter, Lottie, which is a silver lining in anyone’s book. One, two, three… aaawwww!
Thank you, baked potato!
If you haven’t seen this yet you’re clearly doing an excellent job of avoiding social media, but it’s just too good not to carry on sharing and contains an important reminder about washing your hands and staying indoors. Thank you, Matt Lucas, you are a national treasure.
